AMHERST — The Amherst college men’s hockey team remain unbeaten in their ninth straight game Friday night, defeating Connecticut College, 3-1, at Orr Rink.
Nick Bondra and Corey Goldstein each had a goal, while Patrick Daly scored on an empty net to secure the win.
Daly, a senior, totaled two points in the contest with a goal and an assist. He leads the team in goals scored with 6 on the season.
“I thought we were a little sloppy, but we found a way to win so that is all that matters this time of the year. I thought a lot of guys played really hard and everyone going out and giving it their all. It is really what led us to victory tonight,” Daly said. “It comes down to three games… so we will see how that goes.”
The last three games of the season are all conference games for Amherst 8-9-4. Amherst is currently in 4th place in the standings as the nescac tournament approaches. Amherst will have to continue their streak to gain a high seed for the playoffs.
A disallowed goal late in the game helped Amherst pull off their win. The goal was waived off because of a Connecticut College goalie interference.
At the time of the penalty, Amherst had a 2-1 lead and Connecticut was on a power play. If the goal stood, the game would have been tied and potentially sent Amherst into overtime.
“We got lucky with the call at the end, so we feel more fortunate than anything else coming out of this one,” coach Jack Arena said. “We had a tough start and we did not make a big deal out of that…this time of the year you want to be firing on all cylinders and playing a little sharper than we did tonight.”
